On this page you will find a mixture of current photos
with a few of the Lake Wilson Glory Days Big fish. In the late 80's Lake
Wilson was fast becoming one of the top big striper lakes in the county,
I was one of the fortunate who had the chance to experience this lake at
it's best. Then came the flood years of the 90's, with Wilson at it's highest
level ever the flood gates ran open for weeks, along with this release
of water went most of Wilson's big striper's!
Since those days the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife
and Parks has done an excellent job working to restore this lake to it's
prior potential. Today there a excellent numbers of 5 to 7 lb. striper,
fair numbers in the 8 to 12 lb. range and fish in the 14 to 20 lb. range
are not uncommon. Dec. 99 we caught 3-14 lb. striper in 30 minutes, the
weather was a little cool but with those brutes on your line you hardly
notice.
Lake Milford is fast becoming one of the hottest
wiper lakes in this part of the country. While the fish are not trophy
size at this writing the catch rate there is fantastic. June of 99 we averaged
40 wipers a trip with wipers in the 4 to 7 lb. class. With a Kansas limit
of 2 we practice allot of catch and release. If you have never caught one
of the line breakers, this is the place to try your ultra lite, if you
enjoy being ran all over the boat. I highly recommend this lake in May,
June, early July. Don't Catch'em All, Madd Jack |
